The Jazz Band is a class that meets outside of the school day. Members earn five units credit and a grade per quarter. The extra class grade can help raise their grade point average. Students will perform many styles of jazz and learn to improvise. The band travels many times and attendance is mandatory. The Jazz Band has earned several awards over the years, including many first place awards. Members are expected to practice several times a week and there will be required performances at night and on weekends. Admission is at the discretion of the director. All wind instrument players must also be a current member of a concert band.
